The minister also opined that the saplings that are being planted as a part of the environment day celebrations should be nurtured and taken care of and local bodies should take an initiative in this regard. “Along with concentrating on the infrastructure development of the state, we should focus on the environment too. A state level campaign and awareness should be intensified for the purpose,” Babu said.
As a part of the environment day celebrations, the district panchayat members distributed about 4 lakh saplings in the district. Apart from this the district panchayat will also distribute about 2.5 lakh saplings through schools in the coming days. As a part of this programme the panchayat will distribute 15 varieties of saplings including that of Mahogany and other medicinal trees.
